We've all seen the website or heard the news on the rumor mill: the gay club DEVILinside has closed (again). Yawn -- we've heard this before, as a ploy to get attention when attendance is down, and it's hard to believe this isn't yet another attempt to increase traffic when (and if) the public is allowed in again. As club guests, we don't want to be manipulated or made part of silly games. We are looking for a good place for music, conversation, fun and relaxation.
DEVILinside used to be *the* best place on the grid for gay parties. Guests would gather in the club to meet the hottest guys, and countless partnerships began there. It was full most days of the week. It was exciting. It was fun. Fast forward and today it is DEADinside. I interviewed Ayor for inV when DI was smoking and can't believe how hard it has fallen. So what happened to lead to the club's downfall? My one word answer: EGO. When you believe you can never fail is exactly when others find your weaknesses and prove that you can. It's amazing how Ayor and Luca ran that club into the ground.
So, what are some things I observed that drove people away from DI? While I was never banned from the club, I saw several people banned for minor issues; sometimes for simply disagreeing with the owners. Yes, sometimes people need to be banned (think griefers), but when a club depends on filling the room with people, banning someone just because you don't like them isn't good business.
In addition, the attitude of DI management to staff and DJs many times left the staff feeling underappreciated. The bad staff took it out on the guests (or ignored them totally), the good staff left and took the crowds with them. And who can blame them? As staff problems got worse many people were alienated, and is it any wonder that people choose to party at BLU, Tainted Boys or High Energy instead? DIs response was typical: in desperation they banned many club owners for simply having a club that drew their usual crowd, which turned even more people off of the club. Did they not think people noticed there boor business and behavior?
It's a shame that a club with so much potential had to turn to such low measures in a futile attempt to keep a crowd. Close to the end there were rumors they were using bots to fill the place. People don't appreciate manipulation, and won't fall for the "club closing" ploy. If DI had wanted to recover, it was possible through strong management and client focus, but anger and ego got in the way. Was this because they had a kid with no experience run the club? The glory days will be missed, but the struggles and manipulative games won't. Even if it *does* return it will never be respected and appreciated as it once was. The king is dead.

After many weeks of procrastination Ayor and myself have decided to close DEVILInside. This will take effect from Friday May 16th at 12 midnight.
The closure is due for the most part to our "Lack of Motivation" and the lack of motivation of staff. This closure may or may not be permanent. The club will remain in place but no public access will be permitted.
If you would like to discuss this please IM Ayor or myself as we are not closed to suggestions regarding the club.
We would like to thank you all for your support over the past 18 months. It has been a fantastic journey for us all.
At this stage we may re-open after the Northern summer, but we will assess that closer to the time.

Mnay fun nights spent there indeed. Luca killed that. I wouldn't trust anyone involved over there. I quit working there and many others after I saw to many things and how they operate. Good riddens and yeah my frinds and I will never support them if a reopen occurs in the future.

It won't be missed. So many great new clubs that have passed them up. They couldn't survive anymore with the competion out there. It just goes to show that when you treat people poorly they don't forget. Maybe there sl days are up but it's a great lesson for them to learn to apply in rl where it really matters.

This post is all wrong. The DJ's were all let go. Syriana and Roco were the only staff that followed the rules of the club.

You know, I believe this article hits it right on the head, whether you are talking about the way an Avi is treated by an SL business establishment, or merely the way people treat each other in SL. Everyone deserves to be treated with a sense of respect and dignity. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. People who are wronged will seldom forget it. I was banned from DI in my very early SL days. I have never missed the establishment or lost sleep over the likes of the staff and management at DI. There are too many fantastic places and wonderful Avis out there to waste time on mean-spirited people or poorly run businesses. Enjoy the journey that SL provides. There are countless wonderful souls out there waiting to meet you.
The place went to shit. I hope it never gets born again. Luca and Ayor's lack of motivation pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese. They tried everything to keep it going for their ego and status but couldn't because they pissed way to many people off. I'm happy to see it gone and I know many people as well. They were a disgrace to the gay community and how they treated them. Get a 3rd life guys because you won't be anything anymore. We all won't forget.

I left that group many months ago, after seeing a furry being ejected from the club. The excuse I got was that Furries and child avies are not allowed. While,admittedly, Child Avies creep me out, I have many friends who are Furries and I don't like seeing people being judged by who they choose to be.
I seem to recall a time when women were not allowed in DI either. Then Syriana made that rule obsolete.

Give people the opportunity to make up their own mind how they wish to be treated. Bottom line is when people don’t like what’s going on. They go somewhere else… and it’s nice to have that choice. haha Adham...Actually, I'm pretty hard to piss off, I just write what I see and I'm requested to write. This has been coming for a while. And, like many, I'd left the group months ago.
I'd had a conversation with Adham a bit ago where he was loathe to even eject someone who was so deserving of it. Good club owners and managers understand the importance of keeping their fingers off the eject and ban buttons until someone is disturbing other guests. When the staff starts offending the guests, there's a huge problem. Current big clubs seem to understand this...High Energy, Tainted Boys, Blu and others...
I know at least one DJ wasn't informed that they were closing until after the close. She was just left hanging.
The bottom line is, if staff and patrons aren't treated properly, they'll go somewhere else. Blaming the owners of other clubs, the staff or the patrons is self-defeating. And manipulative tactics don't work.

I do feel the need to comment on the bots thing. While I wasn't at DI during the last, I have talked to people who did attend events to check on the bots rumors. One person sent me pics a while back of himself and his alt (both wearing the same shape, skin, hair, etc) at the club because of the fun factor (if you know who I'm talking about, please do not mention the names and respect the privacy of the person--I will delete any comments immediately if the name is mentioned).
There is a huge difference between running an alt and bots. Alts are run by individuals, bots are scripted. I can't say for sure if bots were used or not, but I doubt that DI would've used them simply because of the scripting involved. I want to ask if the "bots" in question talked. If they did, and they talked quite a bit, we're talking alts or avs.
I'm being anal about this because I'm big on ethics and I want to make sure that a misinterpretation isn't being spread through here. If they are using bots it should be known, but if what's being talked about is the case I know of where an alt was brought on I'd like the terminology corrected. That case was in good fun. Unethical use of bots is something that should be brought to light immediately.

Towards the end they had bots plenty of them. It has been said many of times they had platforms of bots to increase the dying traffic numbers. What some owners will do to look like they aren't failing is beyond me.

no bots where used at devilinside at all. The message from ayor said it was a personal choice and had no mention of luca in the message. I feel that more negativity is wrong on devilinside. Lets remember the good times we had there and be the mature person. Business is Business and if ayor didnt want to continue it then that was his decision. I would hope that we can all wish them success in their next venture if there is one.

I have never really been to DI or know much about it but I am a little concerned that someone so young 19 is being criticized like this. (if he really is 19) Who was his mentor in running a club.. He must have done something good for a while. DI must have been a popular club at one time. That is only my concern is that someone who was trying to do good got in with the wrong crowd. I hope he has learned something from the experience.
Great Post Demerick. I was often a regular in the beginning days and was also banned later on. My friends were also banned. This is what happenes when we let people like this have too much control over our second lives. The control we all took back and the final result no more Devil inside. We the people have the power which they forgot while screwing patrons and staff over.

While we value everyone's opinion, we should be able to express those opinion without resorting to "name-calling". Let's keep it above the belt. We are aware that emotions can run high with anyone in the public eye. While there is nothing wrong with disliking the way someone does something, I know we can express even the most heated emotions in a way that isn't defamatory.

Let me put your mind at rest over the alts/bots question. There was indeed an alts platform on the DI club sim in January-February 2008, when it first became apparent that DI was losing visitors. It was located on the southern border of Incubus Islands, at a height of 750 metres.
In recent times they resorted to using a sploder in the ICE Mall sim to distort traffic numbers there, because of the increasing amount of unrented stores. The sploder would be rezzed for an hour or two, and then removed. On a Friday not so long ago, they collected a massive 65 sploder hunters on the sim.
The allegation that DI staff were using alts on the dancefloor seems to have originated around the same time they rezzed the alts platform at the start of this year. The allegation was persistant, and they were unable to shake it.
Not illegal, plenty of places use the same tactics. They did it to raise the club profile in Search, and to fool clubbers and store renters that the sims were more popular than reality. It's just a great shame that they needed to resort to such secretive methods to try and bucket the water out of a sinking boat.
oh who cares its all pixels anyway frankly I couldnt care much for most of the clubs in sl. I will say that sl clubs shouldnt be about money or contests. They should be about music. So no matter if you give away 1 million lindens it doesnt make the club any better. It comes down to the music thats played and the people who go there.
I'm sad to see the place go, but only for sentimental reasons. Devils was the club I went to when I first joined, made a lot of good friends through it. Yes, it did have a strict door policy (payment info, men, no furries) but that didn't seem to affect its popularity for whatever timezone. Good music, imaginative events and a talkative crowd, with managers encouraging and 'talking the place up'. It was (almost) a 'Hoo' free zone (you KNOW what i'm talking about). We left when Mojo Yates stopped managing the Euro time. I haven't yet found a suitable replacement for the Euro Zone .. the others mentioned here seem to only be full in the States timezone.

As far as the club it was beautiful. It was the owners and their close friends that became staff that deceived guests and other employees. Maybe in the day they could because sl didn't offer much but FUCK YOU LUCA AND AYOR. YOU ARE A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT AND EMBARASSMENT TO THE GAY COMMUNITY.
It's also a rumor they never paid the builder for the new club. So the builder used the same design at GOL (his club) months after when no payment was received.
LOL it wouldn't surpise any of us for the n.p. Maybe Demerick can IM the builder and find out if this is true of not.

devilinside was cool in its old design. last christmas - ayor went and shut up shop to refurbish the place. made it too big and less personal and it was doomed from then on. so many people saidf they preferred DIs old design. his new one sucked and it never felt like devilinside ever after

SL is a worldwide celebration of togetherness and friendship, whatever the orientation, origin, lifestyle, ability, colour or belief. You know where the door is if you find that uncomfortable.
I will miss Di for the memory of what it was... many moons ago. What won't be missed is what it became, and the flies that clung to it before it got flushed. The sim might need bleach and a squirt of air freshner before the next owner moves in.
I was shocked to read this article. For one thing I feel sick to my stomach that PERSONAL attacks are being made on Ayor's RL family and allowed to be posted. This is really gross to me. So if they didn't do things according to ETHICAL standards, what is this article? Is this ethical to trash someones loss? In its hay day DI was on the TOP of its game and sure things changed for whatever reason but isn't the real loss to the masses of people that once attended the GREATEST gay club in SL. I'd like to remember all the good times I had there. All the friends I made there. Not take cheap shots at the owners! BTW RL clubs are no different. There seems to be a lot of attacks on the owners of the Club. It seems like there are a lot of Jealous people out there, and the more negative comments that are posted the more apparent it becomes. I think what happened was Jealousy got the best of key individuals that plotted against DI, to date I know of no other GAY club in SL that has reached the status of what DI once was, nor do i think there will ever be another like it. Rules and changes within Linden itself has a lot to do with it. People please remember that this was not YOUR club, there were owners who paid Real money to get this club to be what it was. So to say that their rules and regulations and conduct were unethical is ludicrous. It was their club! They paid for it! In closing I would like to say STOP the HYPOCRISY, leave these people alone. They will live with their losses and gains and deserve to do so however they choose to deal with it. Just like the rest of us will deal with it whether we view it as a loss or gain. Do it in silent reverence and not in an intrusive destructive way that makes YOU look as bad or worse than what they are being accused of!

okay... I did write a long comment about leaving these guys alone, and I would like to say one more thing. Its just sad that people are taking the low road about this closure. I would like to believe that there are still a lot of People in SL that can totally rise above all the name calling and angry comments directed at these guys. They may have made mistakes but don't we all? I may be the only one that feels this way but I am so very disappointed in what is being said here. Maybe they dont even care, but I feel really bad about all this. I really question myself personally if this is what SL is really about. I want to believe that we can all do better then this. I have met so many people here that are down and out and personally I have crossed the line more then once to help out SL friends and even acquaintances in need in RL and I guess I expected more from people in the way of compassion. Havent we as Gay men and women been persecuted enough in RL? How is it that we can treat people in such a way, even if the circumstances are different? I understand that people felt wronged and mistreated and that is apparent, but I truly feel its time to let it alone. Doing it back isn't going to make it right. Its time to release these people. I will still believe!
As I stated before, I'm not censoring. We allowed names in the original post so we'll allow them in the comments. We know nothing of Ayor's RL mother so, while the comments are distasteful, they aren't crossing a line. If someone can verify for me that Ayor does have an invalid mother, I will remove the comments in a heartbeat.
inV staff is working out a comments guidelines so we will have direction in removing posts. We will post the guidelines shortly, but for the most part we want the comments to be a place for open discussion and opinions on both sides of an issue. All comments will be deemed opinions and sometimes we will research claims. That being said, I still want to see strong comments here rather than mere insults.
The comment that mentioned personal attacks on Ayor's family is what I'd like to see. An opinion expressed with thought, even if it disagrees with other comments.
In response to the comment, we can't say the fall of the club was all the fault of staff since diligent owners could keep loyal staff with a commitment to the club's mission. As far as the article being unethical, it would be unethical if it portrayed falsehoods, in which case my name wouldn't be attached. I do remember when DI was the hottest gay club in SL and as I stated, I interviewed Ayor at the time. The article shows how hate generates hate and can never lead to success.
BTW, the "leave these people alone" had me think "Leave Britney Alone!" I couldn't help it. Sorry. I don't think anyone will be able to use any form of that phrase again without people thinking Britney...

I came to notice that when DI was popular.. and I DO mean without Add at the time. None of you all were complaining and were up in there shaking your asses without a care in the world because you KNEW there was no where else to go. Now that the doors are shut and those who have been hurt in the past, you see THIS as an opportunity to act childish and say what the hell comes into mind instead of acting on the situation and being mature and civil, going to Ayor and Luca, face to face, telling them how you really felt. Yet, you sit behind a pc, posting anonymous comments, dragging more people into the situation("true") and making a problem bigger then it is already suppose to be("very true").
But you know what? I don't blame you all as far as in keeping quiet about who you are because as far as I can care, the whole "gay community" is upside down as of right now. I mean because this IS it what it's all about, right? Seeing it is a "gay club". Reason why I say that is, if you were to come out in the open and then said what you really felt in this blog, you'd by rejected most, criticized by most and people would see for the true fake, two-faced person you are.

The other blog in question played a key part in destroying the reputations of the remaining DI staff, and was wholly instrumental in demolishing the club. It served as the keenest and best ally against their own cause. The weapon they had tried to use against others was flicked around into their own faces and POP!

Devils has closed. It was the only club my partner and I could go to in the Euro Zone and know that there would be people there. (I mentioned in a previous post that we stopped going when Mojo Yates stopped licking :-( )

Syriana Paine - what can i say about her - conniving, backstabbing, user. Since I became aware of her about a year ago - I have watched her go through clubs and groups of people causing hate and discontent. I have seen her abuse trust and friendships to better her own agenda and "career." She moves into a circle and will do anything/say anything as long as it has potential to put lindens in her pocket. I have seen here get jobs in clubs and then turn around and stab in the back people who have helped her get there.
Streaming downloads and swearing and saying how gorgeous avi's are does not a DJ make.
I for one stopped going to DI on a regular basis when she started to work there.

I wanted to report my finds.
Gol club is in the same color scheme and very similar build to Di,this Dak (the builder of Di/owner of GOL)obviously used the same texutures and materials as DI. No respectable builder would do a similar build if there wasn't a problem in the shaddows.
While I sat and thought about it why? I think that indeed a feud hapened between the builder/owner of GOL and DI and in revenge he used all the same materials for lack of payment. After almost a year I guess Dakota would say anything to smooth over the public because he isn't seeing any of his money anyway. I also have hear Luca say the build of the new DI was shanty many times and slandered Dakotas name every chance he could.
I also will say anyone interested in going to GOL to see this buid and compare the similarties please do. You will know what I am talking about.
I am not sure why payment was made as a reference since this post isn't about payment of the build but I can say that Luca killed DI. The reasons for closing the doors was nobody wanted to work for them anymore and take his abuse. (I was a dj there and left. Behavior and acts of hate towards people are not tolerated in rl and certainly not in sl. We come here to enjoy ourselves. While Luca can speak he ran the club on honesty is just another desperate measure. Ayor, Luca, Marcopol, Peebee, Jarrod, Willilicious, Syriana knew nothing about honesty.

Nothing good came out of that club for many months. It was ran with dishonesty and the group listed above. They abused everyone that worked there and especially when they left.

I'm going to comment on the build of DI. I talked to Dakota and he stated that he was paid in full for the build. A post was planned, but due to unexpected issues we will not release the post. However, I did want to post what Dakota said about the payment. I've debated any kind of comment on it, but since I did ask and get a response, and speculation is still going on, I think I should put something in here.

He also mentioned he didn't use the same build as a builder for his own personal club. I also went to Gol and it is very similar. The guy is covering up a past issue. Luca has mentioned to the staff many times Dakota is a shabby builder and he had many problems with him. Why would you pay a builder in full if your unhappy with the outcome?

I am a builder in sl and I do customs and never would use a paying customers custom build especially if its going to be for public use and the same area of business.
yup a cover up in my op. too. Why bring up the past of no payment if the club is gone and hasn't been paid in full anyway for almost 8 months.
Indeed no respectable builder would use the same materials of one of his clients custom builds. Whats even weirder is that they are both clubs. I'm quite positive as well a feud of some sort happened and the builder is laying low and taking the high road for his own good.
1000usd for a build? I wouldn't have paid 200 for that shanty. Even if he received partial payment that was plenty.
