Christmas Cracker of a Party!

Christmas was in full swing earlier tonight at Club Rapture with DJ Shepherd and host Rocket Jefferson on hand to keep the peeps entertained. Lots of old familiar faces were on hand including INV’s very own MTD1952 Timeless! As always, he was looking very cute and dressed to impressed. There was a huge 2000 linden contest for the best looking Christmas outfit, which was won by Griffin Ceawlin.
Contest Winner: Griffin Ceawlin

Shep was pumping the best tunes and even threw in a few festive favorites for everybody. Club Rapture is certainly making its mark in SL and it’s always a welcoming feel good atmosphere at the club. It was borne out of Aeschylus Shepherd’s Club Rapture Magazine. The club’s décor is funky yet easy on the eye and doesn’t over do it on the flashing lights as some clubs are prone to doing so.
Club Rapture kicked off the Christmas party calendar this Friday night. If you have a Christmas party this week at your club, let us know and we’ll try and cover it. I bumped into Eddi Haskell (pictured below) during the party, he has a new look and chic looking new suit. He threw some mistlefoe over my head instead of the mistletoe, but it’s all good because I knew it was inadvertent, he let me know how much he loves me before I left, which was nice! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and enjoy the Xmas parties in SL everybody!

Comic Book Mania

Gracek Adamczyk makes comic books in Second Life, which are usually gay themed. His comics are gaining more notoriety and exposure within the gay community as of late. I sat down with Gracek to get the lowdown on his comics and what motivated him to start making them here in SL.

INV: Hi Gracek, you’ve recently started up a comic business in Second Life. Can you tell our readers a little bit about your comics?

Gracek: The comic is called 'Luke's Diary'. It is about an 18-year-old, who is beginning to discover things in life, which, until recently, were unfamiliar to him. He’s meeting new people and experiencing new things, and discovering that he likes guys. The comic is about his adventures, some of which are best described as ‘hot ‘n steamy’. I completed Issue 1, on 6 June, 2008. I got some feedback from readers saying they liked what they saw, so I began another issue.

INV: What persuaded you to start a comic business? Are you a comic book fan in RL?

Gracek: After the first few months in SL, I started to get a bit bored, so I looked for a job and also began thinking about what type of business I could establish. What came to me was that SL is like a great big comic book. I could use what was already available as scenery, along with all of the things that make up a location, and then add my own content to make a story. I read a lot of comics, but I’m not a die-hard collector or anything. And I mostly enjoy reading gay-porn manga (Yaoi) on the net.

INV: You recently showed me around your exhibition gallery to give me a feel of your comic books. Your comics can also be bought there, how much do they cost?

Gracek: Yes, thanks to Kito Kyong, I have an exhibition of my comic and various items related to it, currently showing at the Art Hall, in Gay World. I make sculptures, too, and some of those are on display. Prices for the comic and related items are as follows: Issue 1, $L1; Issue 2, $L300; Luke's Calendar 2009, $L75; posters, $L50.

INV: How often do you publish your comics? Are they time consuming to do?

Gracek: The comic is not being published on a regular basis. It’s turned out to be a rather time-consuming project; for example, it took me 3 ½ months to complete Issue 2. I am not only doing the comic, therefore, I haven’t kept to a regular cycle.

INV: So your comics are aimed at the gay male market?

Gracek: Yes, it’s written for an adult, gay male readership.

INV: Why should people buy and check out your comics? What’s the best selling factor about them?

Gracek: The other day, a friend told me that reading the comic reminded him of some things that had happened in his life. I’ve tried to instil some intimacy and emotion into the story, which hopefully gets people reminiscing about events in their own lives. Also, everyone’s a little bit nosy, sometimes wanting to peep into other people's lives, especially when a person’s bedroom antics are included. So it includes things that readers might have thought about, or actually experienced, superimposed against an SL backdrop (although, not everyone has been to an active volcano that you can get to via a flying fox! lol).

INV: Do you intend on publishing many more comics?

Gracek: Yes, there will be further issues. But right now, in relation to the comic, I’m creating one page stories, for a friend who owns a gallery. The stories include Luke and will also be available to purchase, as posters and possibly in book form.

INV: Your comics are interesting and something I personally haven’t seen been done before in SL, what is the driving force behind them? What’s your inspiration and motivation?

Gracek: Some ideas come from my life, but more are about my own personal fantasies. The motivation comes from the satisfaction of completing something. Praise from my friends and other readers is always welcome :p Also, during the process of creating and selling this comic, I have met many wonderful people, of which quite a few have helped me in so many ways. And I now have 400 subscribers and counting, which is probably the most valuable part of my little enterprise.

INV: Can you tell our readers a little more about yourself?

Gracek: I live in Central Europe; I’m 19-years-old and attend middle school. I like watching movies and playing computer games. Fable’s my latest fave. I like just about anything to do with that particular era. I’m right into computers having totally set up my system at home. And I like travelling, sex, eating and sleeping. :)

INV: Are any of the stories and themes in your comics based on your Real life experiences?

Gracek: Yes, some of the comic includes my own personal experiences, but I won't say which bits. But rest assured, I’ve never been for a swim and had to be saved from an alligator, by a soldier who just happens to be passing by. :)

INV: Where would you like to see your comic business be in say 6 months time from now? What are your long term plans and would you welcome other people to consider setting up producing comics in SL?

Gracek: There will be at least one more issue of 'Luke's Diary', some more short stories and posters, and new products like frames for the posters and cards to celebrate various occasions. If anyone wants to create a comic in SL, a few limitations need to be taken into account -- the comic is not being drawn so it isn't possible to create everything in one's imagination. A wide range of facial expressions is not possible and as for particular poses, some just turn out ugly in a snapshot, regardless of the angle and clothed or not. But ingenuity will always save the day, plus bouncing ideas off friends, especially those who know a lot more than you might at the time.

INV: Thanks Gracek.

Gracek’s comic books can be checked out in his art gallery at the following link. They are also on sale there and would make an excellent gift for somebody this Christmas! http://slurl.com/secondlife/Gay%20World/243/112/27

Triniti Paradise

While the entire Triniti Paradise sim isn't devoted to Christmas, they offer quality decor to get us in the mood for shopping, caroling and holiday joy. In addition to a festive landing point, Triniti Paradise offers great club events, including live music and DJs in a beautiful club area. The build, created by Ummm Kazan, offers a variety of spots for exploration and relaxation, both in a festive mode and in a tropical atmosphere. It's worth taking a break from the rush of your first and second lives to check out Trinity Paradise.

I think Santa got bored with my really, really, really, really, really long wish list this year. Maybe I could've mailed about 324,789 requests to him rather than telling him in person....

Wintermute Christmas Shack

Wintermute Lights

While not the type of Christmas Sim most have come to expect, Wintermute is a beautiful present wrapped in snow covered mountains, just waiting to be unwrapped. It's charm has been preserved by Second Life photographers on Flickr, but it's an experience worth seeing first hand. Its colors and hidden surprises are drawing photographers and explorers alike. Also, don't miss checking out this beautiful work of art from Jonah Short using a scene at the sim.

FLY THE SL SKIES

I'm sure at some point we've all found ourselves waiting outside an airport for family or friends on a delayed flight. Sure, it's easy enough to find flight status on the internet. But Haruki Watanabe has created an SL application that is sure to amaze you.

Imagine a "second life"-sized map you can walk around on as you watch prim versions of RL airplanes floating by as they approach their destination. Flight-Tracker does just that. This innovative technology is based on an internet application made by students of the ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences) as their graduation project. A receiver located near Winterthur captures the transponder data of airplanes in range which is then processed and laid over a Google map. Flight-Tracker takes the data collected by this internet application and turns it into a 3-D model in-world.

The airplanes in range are rezed over the map on the floor according to their RL coordinates. They also are tilted according to their angle of descent/ascent. If the information is available, the prim planes also show the logo of the particular airline. Clicking the back of each airplane provides the flight-details in hovertext above the plane. Currently the information is just for the Zurich area. The Zurich airport is shown as a big yellow dot in the middle of the map with real-time weather data.

Of course, the real fun started when we figured out you could sit on the planes and catch a free ride across Zurich. Jade and I aren't sure but we think Ammon tried to gas the passengers of his plane. Don't worry. Everyone seemed OK and Ammon swears they smell like roses. Jade and I aren't convinced. Scientists are still studying the long-term psychological impact of Pera gas on lab rats and orphans. Nonetheless, this is a great place to visit and we look forward to seeing future versions. Go fly the friendly Swiss skies and enjoy this unique creation at Haruki's Place & Shop on Golden Business Area.

Escape to Atlantis

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of being personally toured around the brand new Atlantis 2100 build on the Verdana sim by its two owners, Braden Darkstone and his partner, Etcher Giano. I had briefly seen some of Atlantis 2100 the prior evening at a Second Pride 2009 Coming Out Party, but little did I know that I was about to be stunned with some of the most scenic views, amazing architecture and breathtaking beauty. I’ve tried to capture this in the photos above and below, but these really don’t do the place justice. This is a place that has to be seen in person.

From the amazing Secret Love Garden, Lucifers Remorse, Gabriels Promise, Celebration Temples and the convergence of heaven meeting hell, you will not be disappointed in what you discover on this truly amazing sim. It can be visited here at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Vernada/174,124,47 - I managed to sit down with both owners at their home for an exclusive interview to find out more about Atlantis 2001.
INV: Braden, Etcher, thank you so much for the wonderful tour of your new Atlantis 2100 sim at Vernada. It's a breathtaking build and one of the most amazing sims Ive seen in all my time here in Second Life. What led you to jump in and build such an incredible sim?

Braden Darkstone: Well, let me start if etcher doesnt mind....

Etcher Giano: go ahead love

Braden Darkstone: I originally came to SL to do artwork. But I found the personalities in SL so very diverse and amazing. I soon amassed a small group of friends. I loved clubbing in SL. Eventually after a few relationships I and a few properties I owned, I decided to build something I hadnt seen in SL. A themed community service area. And that is what Atlantis really is all about. This is actually the second Atlantis 2100 build.

INV: Upon the tour that you guys just give me, it's clear that there's a notable heaven and hell theme on the sim. What influenced you to run with that theme? Does it have any personal resonance?

Braden Darkstone: Well, I wanted a theme that is evocative, sensual and recognizable across international boundaries. The battle for souls is among the oldest, most recognizable themes. With the help of my friends though we spun it. Rather than God vs Satan. We took gods two favored angels. Lucifer and Gabriel and themed those areas of the build around the avenging angel and the outcast angel.

Etcher Giano: We both agreed to continue to run with that theme from there while I was building I just happened to be adding symbolism to the areas making them more then we both could have wished for.

INV: Those two Gods are clearly enshrined in several stunning statues across the sim, did you make most of the sim yourself?

Braden Darkstone: Well, as for me.....I built the basic skeleton for the two clubs, which Etcher then refined. He built most of what is here in terms of structure from scratch. The statues and amenities were all purchased.

Etcher Giano: We did collaborate on the major points of the structure. But yes I started building the structure with the celebration temples because they were going to be large and a major focal point, and then I worked from the heaven side to the hell side making them have similar architectural pieces yet having a complete different feel.
INV: You are both clearly a very happy couple. This is a perfect place for romance and a must for any couple to visit to spend some time here. You also mentioned that you were considering allowing weddings and other special events to take place here. Who does Atlantis 2100 appeal to? Any category of people? Gay, straight, mixed? Are you looking for any particular demographic of people to visit you?

Braden Darkstone: That part was a crucial component from my view. I wanted the two sides to be very much physically the same structure but vastly different in feel. We are a proud, out loud, gay couple obviously..... But Atlantis is built as a community space. It is open to anyone to use who is accepting of other opinions and views. We will focus on the GLBT and furry communities primarily, but I welcome any group that is not hate based or biased to hold an event there.

Etcher Giano: We are open to all demographics, Gay, Straight, Furry everyone is welcome in Atlantis 2100. We market as a Gay sim but encourage others to come and explore and party with usINV: You staged your first event here on Saturday with the special Coming Out Party to kick-start Pride 2009, which is in aid of Amnesty International this year. How did you feel about staging such a prestigious event and being affiliated with such a wonderful fundraising event that is "Second Pride" and do you intend or hope to be more involved with Second Pride 2009 in the new year?

Braden Darkstone: Well, of course Etcher and I are deeply honored to be affiliated with Second Pride in any way. This island was built for just such functions.

Etcher Giano: I attended Pride 2008 last year and it was a blast, I wish I had known about it sooner so I could have become a sponsor, This year we were approached about holding the Coming out event and jumped right on the wagon what a way to help then to give them a venue we have toiled over. I think we both definitely want to continue our work with Second Pride.

INV: That leads me on to my next question. You have 3 separate nightclubs here at Atlantis 2100. Each are themed very differently. For example, one is in the heaven side and another in hell. What will be your focus for the clubs and what can people expect to see from them that sets you apart from other gay dance clubs and nightclubs out there?

Braden Darkstone: Well, those who attended the Original Lucifers Remorse will remember that it was a rather theatrical experience. We will continue that tradition. We were also known for having great sponsors for our events and as many freebies as we could provide. We took a genuine interest in our patrons. Always strove to make them feel at home and welcome as friends. Beyond that though.....We took a genuine interest in our patrons. Always strove to make them feel at home and welcome as friends. Gabriels Promise will have quiter, more intimate vents. Ballroom dances, different music, etc.INV: You also have some fantastic looking condos for residential letting and commercial stores available in various mall space here at Atlantis 2001. What would you say to attract people to those?

Braden Darkstone: The really great thing about the shopping spaces is that they are open directly to the clubs. So patrons leaving the club to explore will see them immediately. And the condos are set off away from all the action in a very private setting.

INV: When does Atlantis 2100 officially open to the public? When will the clubs be open and when will people be able to rent residential condos and commercial space? Will there be an opening party?

Braden Darkstone: Well Etcher and I talked about this. We decided to leave the doors open after Second Pride's coming out party.

Etcher Giano: Our Official open date is December 31st. We are planning a great Opening Party to take place New Years Eve in the Celebration Temples. After that our clubs will be fully up and operational.

Braden Darkstone: Yup. A Masquerade Ball. It should be a blast.
INV: WOW, that sounds very exciting. If you were to each describe Atlantis 2100 in one single sentence to somebody who has never heard of it, how would you describe it?

Braden Darkstone: I would say this....Atlantis 2100 is a fun, romantic place to come shop, live and dance that has to be seen to appreciate.

Etcher Giano: Atlantis 2100 is a magical place were dreams have been brought to our reality, it is a place to enjoy solitude as well as company of others, definitely a place you wont want to miss.

INV: Atlantis 2100 sounds like a very exciting project and I would like to take this opportunity for giving me the personal tour and inviting me into your home. You are a very lovely couple and I wish you both the absolute best success in the future. Do you have any final comments or quick plugs to make?

Braden Darkstone: I would like to send out an open invitation to the community to come explore the New Atlantis 2100. It’s a great update of the original. I would also like to invite any group looking for a place to stage a meeting, ceremony, or celebration to contact Braden Darkstone or Etcher Giano. We would love to host you.

Etcher Giano: I want to take the time to thank Bigdaddie Beatie from the Gayborhood for building the Beach Condos and invaluable help when it came to building structures, Also a big thanks to Jace Lewis for returning to Atlantis to put his thumbprint on it as his build was much an inspiration. I hope everyone come and enjoys what we have done here and bring your friends its truly a special place.

INV: Thanks guys.

Something is brewing @ Stiletto Moody

I have it from a reliable source that stumbled into a high level Stiletto Moody fashion shoot that, when zooming in, she saw the most astounding foot in a high heel shoe, a real foot! Putting two and two together, she figured that all the hints of the Stiletto Moody BARE range must be this beautiful foot design. Needless to say when I asked Stiletto about it she gave a naughty smile and said "no comment," but she promised to answer all our questions within the next days. Something is brewing...
