The Golden Fleece Jewelry

Jewelry creation isn't easy. Manipulation of tiny prims requires infinite patience. However, those who do take on the challenge can bring the perfect accessories to our SL fashions. The Golden Fleece demonstrates quality in a field where men's designs can be lacking and offers a unique approach to standard jewelry.

The Golden Fleece owner, Anykey Munster, has only been designing jewelry for about two months, but his creations are among the best men's pieces in SL. Demos are available for each style. The items are no mod, but Anykey will adjust to fit your shape if necessary. Future plans for the jewelry may include a script to make personal modification simple.

Although young, The Golden Fleece is already making waves. This is one company that could easily grow into one of SL's greatest men's jewelry stores. Check it out now and be sure to watch for new items.

Fun with Stereotypes?

We know the model stereotypes in RL: women and men plagued with addiction and eating disorders in their efforts to maintain the perfect bodies required by their careers. Second Life spares models such damaging habits with the ease and painlessness of plastic surgery (we all jumped on that bandwagon in order to escape our horrendous newbie forms), low maintenence hairstyles (even when they look like we spent all morning getting each hair perfect) and the fact that in world models don't have the stressful celebrity status of their RL counterparts. Still, stereotypes may enter into many aspects of Second Life including our choice of employment, styles of entertainment and appearance (yes, I do play on the dumb blonde stereotype often).
What stereotypes have you seen in-world and how harmful are they to your Second Life experience?

Second Life Currency's Official Look

We spend them every day, but have you ever wondered what a Linden would look like if it were actual, tangible money? The above graphic from Linden Labs demonstrates the official conception of the Linden Dollar. With a bling Second Life hand and diamonds on the L$, it would probably be much more expensive to create this conception in a real world economy, but the design is attractive and Second Life spares us the need for physical money. The joy of a virtual world includes the fact that aesthetics can be included in areas where reality would make such imagination unfeasable.

Perhaps Linden Labs should create RL versions of these for sale as collectibles. Properly marketed, they could draw in more money for the company that gives our avatars life. And who wouldn't want a nice, blingy Linden paperweight?

inV daily’s weekly top 5 music selection in sl clubs w/ DJ Jason Feingold

inV daily’s Weekly Top 5
w/ DJ Jason Feingold
Friday, August 8

Hey guys, this is DJ Jason penning my new weekly inV daily Top 5 music picks. Each Friday, I will be covering the hottest tracks making the rounds at the clubs and also those most frequently requested. Let’s kick off with this week’s Top 5 Picks:

1) Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl (Jason Nevins Remix) --- This week’s top pick is undoubtedly one of the biggest smash hits of the summer and is totally packed with lots of attitude. The song’s caused a lot of controversy in its “perceived promotion of being gay,” but bring it on cos we love it and make sure you check out the Jason Nevins remix of the track, which knocks the socks of the original version.

2) N-Force VS Darren Styles – Right By Your Side (Ultrabeat Remix) --- I’m a massive fan of the UK’s hardcore DJ, Darren Styles and this Ultrabeat remix of the awesome combination of Styles and N-Force blows the roof off all the other different remixes on this track. This track always brings everybody to the dancefloor and is pure high adrenaline, blood thumping every step of the way!

3) Cute is What We Aim For – Practise Makes Perfect --- The troubled Buffalo, New York band made their return to earlier this year with this very impressive hit, powerful on the vocals and hell you gotta admit these guys ooze sex on legs. A cool laid back song that’s incredibly catchy the more you listen to it. Definitely a group worth drooling other and a really great track!

4) The Klaxons – Gravitys Rainbow (Van She Tech Remix) --- You may have heard this one making the rounds in a funky little shake your hips klaxon gesture in Second Life. It’s taken from the Van She Tech remix of Gravitys Rainbow and is one of those tracks where the remix far outshines the original. Definitely a great track for a DJ to kickstart a party and set the right tone for clubbers to hit the dancefloor!

5) Armand Van Helden – I Want Your Soul (Club Remix) --- Last year’s very popular “I Want Your Soul” is still hitting the airwaves at many of the clubs in SL with this faster energized club remix of Helden’s red hot track. The club remix is more pulsating than the original and is always a really great track to keep the clubbers continuing to shake it and boogie all night long!

I’ll be back next week with another Top 5 and until then, PARTY ON!

Happy Birthday Jake

Once again, Jake's Club took over the SL nightlife and inV was there to help celebrate the birthday of JakeC Hotshot. Those who gathered on Nasturtium Island for the festivities danced and chatted amid a plethora of balloons, confetti and poofers. DJ Muhu Janus entertained the crowd with a great set. As always, the party rocked the grid.

inV staff would like to take this opportunity to wish Jake a very happy birthday.

Get pumped this Saturday

What career in SL interests you the most?

Second Life is a chance to explore ourselves and step outside the boundaries of RL. We can't fly or teleport in RL. We can't grow tails. Much of our RL is restricted by our chosen careers, but Second Life gives us freedom to identify and pursue interests--something that, many times, would require several years of college, seeking a new degree, to do in RL.

While some people do choose to bring their real life careers to SL, we rarely find someone who makes body shapes in RL, or someone who creates eyes (although a plastic surgeon and contact lens manufacturer may fall into these categories). Many DJs are exclusively SL DJs, photographers grow from the ease of taking a snapshot and knowledge of Photoshop despite having little photography experience in RL and clothing designers are more likely to be RL graphic designers than someone who creates RL fashions for a living. The joy of SL is in our freedom to explore all levels of our personalities and expand our skills and talents. Besides, who wants to log into SL and work doing what they've been doing at the office all day?

As for me, I actually am not into fashion or publishing in RL. But I can say openly I have the best magazine with the most coverage for any advertiser than any other hands down. I also have always played with integrity and will continue to do so while some I know do not. inV does not support these people or businesses in anyway and they are never welcome to anything inV related period. I also believe if you choose to work for anyone in sl you should be paid. SL is for everyone and is supposed to be fun. SL is about learning to take your interests and talents in RL and expand them in a new and exciting world. It's all about trying new things and exploring ourselves and each other in ways we perhaps never could in RL. How have you turned your RL skills into an SL career? Or what career in SL interests you the most?

Are you your own twin?

Second Life provides the opportunity to challenge the identities we carry in RL. Avatar creation is the first experience we have with portraying ourselves in the virtual world. For some, this means changing everything--hair, height, eyes--and experiencing life as the person they've always wanted to be. Others choose to demonstrate their real selves (minus a few imperfections) through recreation of their likenesses in Second Life.

How much does the RL you look like the SL you? Seeing this picture made me wonder about the approaches people take when designing their av's. Is SL a reflection of your physical self or a digital makeover? In the end, even the most gorgeous avatar loses it's charm if the person behind the wheel has a rotten personality. Perhaps it just boils down to the Second Life expectations you hold for yourself and others. If you would consider taking something RL, would a more accurate avatar be the better route to go or do you just accept that the sexy guy or girl you cyber with could be a horse in real life?

A Kind Gesture...

[◕◕Adian ♡] appears in chat where I'm dancing and a cute voice giggles out my name. Suddenly chat is full of names and the same cute voice echoes across the dance floor. It is the voice of polomi Oh, creator of Nickname Gestures and owner of OSU. I thought these were a lot of fun and great gifts for friends. Drop polomi a Notecard with the names you want (the 4th one is free) and you will receive your personalized gestures within 48 hours. Considering they are custom, they are a steal at 250L$. Be sure to check out OSU and pick up the generous freebie packs. The Gestures are Copy, Modify and Transfer.

I love Gestures! There are so many to choose from and they are also very easy to create. They combine text, sound and animation in combinations limited only by your imagination. Like hair, skin and clothes, they can reflect your AV’s personality in a positive way if you choose and use them wisely.

[Adian rolls on his back in anticipation of having his tummy rubbed - purrs] is a signature gesture. It is cute, funny and usually gets a fun reaction. But not if I play it during wedding vows or repeat it 10 times and interrupt all public chat. Gestures add to the excitement in clubs when Hoos!! roll out for a favorite song or Howling Wolves flash by the screen. But there is a saturation point where it is no longer funny and eventually annoying. We have all kinds of resources available to us to enhance our virtual experience. The art is in knowing how and when to use them.

Globe Trotters

We've heard the stories: married men with wives in towns across the country who use business as an excuse for their absences from each family (Previous example is based on some news somewhere and genders can be exchanged). While it's possible to respect the endurance and time management skills of such newsmakers, SL provides a new outlet for those who are attached, but seeking the thrill and adrenaline of someone new. Business travel provides opportunities the spouses who remain at home rarely know about, and now, in addition to exploring that newspaper want ad and hiring a prostitute, attached avs have the temptation of meeting their SL lover in person.

With access to an online "game" comes the responsiblity of recognizing the people in our RLs and the people behind the avatars in SL. Meeting SL lovers in RL is the decision of the adults involved. However, focus needs to remain on the risk of any new relationship and the responsibilities to the old relationships. To be safe with an ethical approach, end RL relationships before agreeing to meet an SL lover. Not only is it right for the person we leave behind, it's best to stand on our own following the end of any relationship before diving into a new one.

He Who Has The Most Toys...Lags

Shopping is life for many of us in SL. When the clubs bore us and our partner isn't on for some SL bedroom (bathroom/backyard/kitchen) fun, the shops remain to provide us endless entertainment with new clothing, gadgets and furniture. We're spared the need to hang our clothes in closets and put our unused furniture in storage, but how much impact does a 20,000 item inventory have on game play?

The fact is, inventory upload requires that resources used for graphic downloads and uploads be split. Additionally, inventory storage requires space in your computer's cache (explaining why clearing your cache requires a reload of inventory). So, a large inventory may prove that you're a great shopper and have an eye for all the SL bargains out there, but deleting those unused freebies will probably spare you some lag and improve gameplay.

making sl cocktails reality

The picture above is an actual sl cocktail called watermelon rum cooler.

It looks so yummy in SL why not have it in RL. A few common summertime ingredients will make this delicious beverage one you can really enjoy as your av sips away.

1/2 cup Simple Syrup
1 large watermelon
2 cups pineapple juice
1 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1 1/2 cups rum, or more, if you like

It says it serves 16 people but I'd say 8 for safe measures. Also triple the rum. Enjoy and have a great safe summer.

I really enjoy my work here at inV Daily. One moment I am stalking a Mouse and the next I get an IM - [Ammon Pera: This is funny, can you write a paragraph?] and I'm off on a new adventure.

Like this link to the 60 second video "Thriller". At a glance it is fun, but then wow, how did they do that and is that really Second Life. Well, yes it is Second Life, in July 2004, 4 years ago, when Ulrika Zugzwang won First Prize in the "New Moves for a New World" animation contest . This video had a cast of 13 actors, a production crew of 8 and cost 15,000L$ for scripts, clothing, skin, location, and sets. The animation rate was 1.14 min/frame for a total animation time of 36.5 hours. And no I don't know what that means but those who do are HOOing.

I'm fascinated by what was done without the resources we take for granted in today's Second Life Client. My Neko curiosity is definitely piqued and I want to learn more about animation: just as soon as I catch that Wireless Mouse.
