Escort, Anyone?
Okay, so I say to the guy, I say, “I wanna be an escort! I’m sexy, I emote well, I love mutual masturbation, and I love men, and I’ve got at least two of all the better “naughty bits” offered in SL! What else could be required?”
Boy, was I surprised by the answer! First of all, disguise your age! Clients don’t want to think they’re with a 56 year old! The “fantasy” requires that you appear to really be the 19 year old that your avatar portrays. Also, “dumb down” your language, and adopt more current slang. You sound too literate, and therefore too educated and too old. That breaks the “fantasy”, too. Sheesh! I need to appear young and dumb to attract a sex partner? Go figger!
My reaction? F*ck this! I’ve always worn a completely open profile in Second Life, and attempted to reach out to my fellow gay men, and especially anyone dealing with issues related to HIV/AIDS, because I’m a positive-positive; I’m infected with HIV, diagnosed 15 years back, and this is my first year of being “out” in real life, to everyone in my life, and I’m not letting go of that feeling of relief, pride, and accomplishment that accompanies 20 years of alcohol and drug addiction recovery, 15 years of healthy living despite HIV, and nearly 40 years of living in “that damned closet”, now, finally behind me! I find SL’s gay community the most refreshing and liberating experience I’ve encountered in many, many years, and love it dearly! And I will always be a willing set of ears, an open heart, and a kindred spirit; and just “Mike”, to those who share my joy, or seek some reliable information or just a pair of ears to “vent” upon.
So, no “escort” for me! I won’t lie or pretend to be what I am not, not in real life, and not in Second Life! What do you think? Would you hire an “escort” in SL for sex? If you did, would you want them masquerading as some “fake” identity, for the sake of appearances, or would you want to know something real and personal about the guy with whom you’re sharing an “intimate encounter”?

Ewwwww An escort for me? No thank you. Why pay for something when it is free all over SL. And who wants it anyway? Got my own playground and it has some of the best sand toys in it.

Escorting is the next pay grade up from camping, and like thousands of others, I gave it a whirl. Back then, SL was mile after mile of casinos and sex clubs, so I dropped my newbie pants and got on with it.
Having to come across as a neanderthal stud, permanently on heat, ready and willing to have sex with all comers was interesting, lol. Have to confess, my avatar was doing all the work, I would be snacking on Cheerios or watching a movie, I even read War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells (fabulous book) while I was doing it. As for moral and ethical implications, they never made the crossover to RL, I didn't feel any more slutty or studly for it.
It didn't make me rich, but it was better money than camping! Not to have done it would have made me less aware of what goes on in SL. It would have been a missed experience, a bit like everyone else going off to the school prom, and me sat in my bedroom sticking voodoo pins into the Yearbook. I want to try, see and do everything! :)

Great post MTD. Nothing wrong with a little fantasy but that only goes so far. Eventually the story just falls apart in the wash, so why not start out on the right foot. Nothing sexier than being yourself. Nothing wrong either with making a few lindens off artful emoting.
I suppose if there is a particular fantasy that your partner isnt really into, or if you like rough and your partner isnt always up for it, etc. I'm sure escorts have their place in RL and SL, I don't think I'd ever actually 'hire' someone to get with - I mean for me, when I was single, half the fun was getting there - who wants to just plunk down money and be there with no effort? That kinna takes the fun out of it. And if you're fresh out of a relationship and need a random 'boink' to get you over them, there is still no need to pay, aside from a few drinks for them first. I came into SL already in a monogamous relationship in RL and I came in with that person so we're both in here as partners as we are in RL so Ive never dated an avitar or had sex with one.
