Attol "OZ" Outback Sim : UMMMM Has Hit Again !

Will Ummm Kazan ever get tired of building? Apparently not. He's done it again, producing a new sim inspired by the Australian Outback. I gather he got tired of seeing inaccurate builds representing his home country, so he decided to express himself in this theme and throw in his particular insight into his own country using his much acclaimed talent as a builder.

Sims are about simulating the look & feel of a world with all of its components: terrain, construction, sound and effects. Ummm is inspired by towns in the wide-open space of the Outback. Space. There's lots of it. from eroded hills to open desert and the intricate shoreline. The town itself gives you the feeling it's temporary, built with what could be found or made locally--wood, or what can be recycled: bricks, sandstone and galvanized roofing. You get the feeling of a turn of the century installation (20th) built maybe for miners extracting ore, where all the inhabitants arrived in a short time-span. You even expect to come across Crocodile Dundee or Midnight Oil, at any corner. This is their Australia and Ummm has depicted it with great mastery, talent, respect of the land, unobtrusive architecture and usage of local resources.

I spent some time watching all the domesticated animals (hearing the hens crow - or was it a cock?) and wildlife (cockatoos, dingos, rabbits & roos...) and the typical Aussie Outback vegetation, which is rare in SL; the use of shadow is to be seen. There are loads of places to visit in and outside the town: events and live groups will be held in the local concert hall. The mayor's house -I don't know who he is yet - will stage exhibitions and receptions. Or you can get your beachwear and head to the shores, where the mix of colors becomes that little bit more magical - there's a zen grotto (Ummm says this depicts the Asian influence in Australia), places to sit, relax, watch the dolphins, swim, surf, kayak or even scuba-dive. This sim is clearly thought out and designed for discovery, chance encounters, events, or just sheer isolation. Ummm has managed to provide all that with just 3750 prims, which really shows his architectural and building skills. And if by chance, there's a radio on, don't you just love that accent? I do.

The building is on-going, I don't think Ummm ever stops, always finding details to tune-up. The overall impression is very striking in its color, intelligent prim usage and coherent building. What it needs now is to be used, so get down there, look around or even rent a place in this secluded original setting--there won't be many opportunities open.

If you want a truly original Aussie Outback experience, this is it! A whisper of the Outback lands--earth, water, wind and fire, aboriginal dreaming, sounds of the night--Attol is all of these things and more. "Come," she whispers. "Be still. The outback awaits."

As Ummm himself would say, "Ridgi didge! Blue, she will be apples :)). " Ask him for the translation.
